How do I order a bike?

The Ordering process is explained on our Ordering page.

How can I buy your bike through my bike shop?

Vale does not sell via bike shops. We offer a direct service to customers.

How can I change my order after I have submitted it?

It depends. If your order has been signed off and your bike has entered carbon production, this aspect is not able to be changed. However if it has not entered production, we can discuss minor changes to the design. This will incur a change fee due to the additional work required to make the design changes. It is preferred that once sign-off is made, this is your final decision.

How can I choose my own colour scheme?

We will guide you through the paint design process. We have years of experience delivering concours quality paint jobs. In fact in our Carbon Bike Doctor business (Australia's leading carbon fibre repairer), they became so popular that we had to stop painting bikes. Painting old bikes is more tricky and relies on a lot of surface preparation and inclusion of detailing to create a new scheme or match existing paint. At Vale, we have the luxury of a blank canvas. Nethertheless, we have certain design styles that we prefer. We can help guide you in the choice of paint designs to make your bike look great. Our signature paint style exposes multiple parts of the bike as raw carbon (with an appropriate UV protective clear coat) juxtaposed with parts of the bike painted. Logos are featured in raw carbon fibre, which highlights the properties of this unique material. Other customisation options include adding additional feature logos, or even your name in paint. We use DNA Paints for our paintwork. These paints are Australian made to suit our harsh sun, and there are many styles of paint to choose from. Although we prefer to use our own paint schemes, if you decide to have full custom paintwork, there will be an additional cost for the design and painting aspects.

How can I find out about frames available in stock for purchase?

Vale primarily do not pre-stock frames and build frames to order. However from time to time we may have a frame available which will be advertised on the website.

How can I get my bike made faster if I pay extra?

No. Vale Bikes runs a "first in, first out" process. This ensures that it is fair to everyone.

How can you work with my bike fitter?

Yes, this is possible. Bike fitters can help to design and fit you to a specific position. This can be transferred onto a Vale.

How do I choose my components like wheels and groupset?

We will work with you to discuss your options for your components.

How do I find the right size bike for me?

As part of the ordering process we will interview you to understand your cycling needs and your physicality. You can also make use of a 3rd party bike fitter to help design a position, or we can also transfer positioning from your old bike.

How do I supply my own components like wheels and groupset?

You can supply your own components for the bike build. We will work with you to confirm the requirements for your ordering to ensure compatibility with the bike.

How do you make the bike?

We make the bike through a combination of art and science. We believe that bikes should be first and foremost expressions of individuality expressed as art forms. However they must be functional and this translates into the design and build of the bike. The bike is built using proprietary carbon composites techniques and processes.

How much will my frame cost?

The cost of the bike depends on multiple factors, and will be discussed with you on initial enquiry. Vale bikes come standard with frame, seat post, headset, stem and handlebars. Paintwork and finishing can affect the final price. Any componentry will be at additional cost and will depend on your selection.

How would I arrange shipping?

Shipping can be arranged by a courier service. We have been sending bikes by courier for years. If the bike is properly packed for transit, it will arrive safely and undamaged.

What do we cover in the Interview?

The interview process will start with finding out what drives you as a person and cyclist. What you are looking to achieve, and what your preferences are and delve into your riding and bike ownership experiences. We will then work to understand your physicality so that we can design you the best bike. We will explain any custom options and guide your paint preferences.

What experience do you have with Carbon Fibre?

Our co-founder Tristan Tucker's real world composites commenced building high performance carbon fibre yachts including Grand Prix Maxi (Alfa Romeo, Morning Glory, Wild Oats, Leopard III) & Americas Cup yachts at McConaghy Boats in Australia, then Volvo Ocean Race yachts (Errickson Race team) in Sweeden, followed by helping to establish a sailing school for Oman Sail. Tristan then moved back to Australia to work on Carbon Hang Glider component development at Composite Creations. A lifelong cyclist, Tristan's goal was to build bikes, and he took on the challenge of working for Teschner Bikes to develop handmade Carbon Road Bikes . Tristan left Teschner in 2011 to co-found Carbon Bike Doctor, helping thousands of everyday cyclists, bike shops and insurance companies to get bikes safely back on the road. Tristan co-founded Vale Bikes in 2016 to continue his dream to bring to market the world's best handmade bike.

What is involved in the design process?

The design process follows the Interview process. We take the information provided by you at interview, then use our techniques to design a bike for you. This will include creation of a CAD drawing and paint scheme layout. We will list any componentry that will be added to the bike.

What is the “wait list?

We have a wait list which is our current production timeline. We operate on a "first in" "first out" basis for the development of bikes in our production queue. We can advise expected wait times at the interview stage.

The two businesses co-exist happily with each other.  Sometimes accidents are unavoidable. If the worst happens, we have the knowledge and skills to safely repair your bike.

What is your relationship with ENVE?

Vale Bikes are an official ENVE custom builder. We use the best ENVE carbon fibre to hand craft a Vale bike. This includes ENVE carbon fibre tubing & forks. As part of Vale's default inclusions, we supply ENVE handlebars, seatpost and stem.
